About Us

“Cahoola Droughtmasters” is situated at Mitchell Creek, Upper Kandanga in the Mary Valley, South East Queensland with farm stay cabins available for people travailing whom are welcome to stay and enjoy the serenity of the peace and quiet of the bush with in 1.5 hrs north of Brisbane, turning west off the Bruce highway west Pomona.

Cahoola farm is a Droughtmaster cattle breeding stud focusing on breeding selected animals to produce top line progeny for sale to stud and commercial breeders. Bulls and female cattle are available for viewing and selection.

We have been predominantly using artificial insemination programs with our female Droughtmasters to introduce top of the line progeny, all though there are certain factors leading to production issues relying on this method solely  we are continuing with this program to ensure we are producing specific breading values from selected animals by adhering to our strict selection and breading strategies and continually measuring and evaluating to achieve gains in performance.

Our genetic improvement program looks at traits which must meet four basic criteria being economically important, measurable, reasonably heritable and charactered by variability in the population.

Our dam references come from from well known breeders being Glenlands, Fairhaven, Billabong and Imbil Droughtmaster

Studs also with backgrounds to Minlacowi, Wingfiled,Huntly, Clonlarra and Redskin stud sires. 100 selected Heifers have been purchased recently with a first pass AI program completed on 40% of these with selected sire “Wingfield Cagney”

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Keith Burke, Neville Knox and Eddie Budgen for their continued support over the past years in assisting us with our livestock health and welfare strategies including, AI programs, Embryo transfer programs, preg testing, calving, vaccination and parasite control, feeding and herd recording resulting in a job lot of outstanding heifer and bull calves.  Is been a lot of hard work and dedication well done!

Also to Col and Linda Hewitt of “Fairhaven” for our recent purchase of top line purebred droughty heifers we have now successfully AI’ed to Fairhaven’s $100,000 bull “Wingfield Cagney” and for  the loan of  stud bull “Billabong Odysseus”. To “Imbil Droughtmasters” Brian and Diane Hooper for our purchase of several heifers and cows now calved to $70,000 “Strathfield Telesto” and $100,000 “Minlacowie Lexington” And to the Childs family Bruce, Val, Daren and Jason of “Glendlands” for our recent purchase of a line of purebred droughty heifers giving us an injection to our herd of top line bloodlines.

We are looking at an exciting future at “Cahoola Droughtmasters” and are looking forward to the "Next Generation" at Mitchell Creek and at the newly acquired Park lane property at Imbil for growing out our prodigy.
